Description
Apollo Era Two Samples of Simulant for Abrasion Tests, Few Remain Today!
1p, measuring 8.5" x 11", to which has been mounted two samples housed in plastic encasements, each measuring 1.5" x 1.25". "Simulant" was meant to simulate the surfaces of Lunar and Martian surfaces and was used to test abrasion wear on space suit outer layer fabrics. The Lunar surface simulant was mined in Arizona's Black Point Lava Flow, while the Martian surface simulant was taken from Hawaii's Monaro Volcano. Only small amounts of this Simulant that were used in these tests remain today. Very fine.
