December 8, 1832-Dated, Partially-Printed Document "Jackson Ball." 7th U.S. President Andrew Jackson Invitation at Hudson, Complete with Invitee's Name "Miss Sarah Benton," Choice Extremely Fine.
Andrew Jackson was the seventh President of the United States from 1829 to 1837, seeking to act as the direct representative of the "common man". His views won approval from the American electorate; in 1832 he polled more than 56 percent of the popular vote and almost five times as many electoral votes as Clay. This Presidential Celebration rarity measuring about 7.5" x 4.75" on fine period wove paper in black. This decorative Invitation is issued about one month after Andrew Jackson's election in 1832, yet was to be held on January 8th, 1833. Decorative top vignette of Harps and a musical horn within a floral display background, all well printed on its paper stock with the reverse blank. A long list of "Managers" printed below the main text which reads, in part: "a Ball to be given in commemoration of the Victory of New Orleans, at the Eagle Tavern, on the evening of the 8th of January next. Hudson, December 8, 1832." The very first example we have seen and offered.
