A PAIR OF INLAID-IRON VASES
Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th century
Each globular body decorated with shaped panels of birds and flowers, a cottage with a thatched roof, or a sailing vessel, all inlaid in gold on a ground of a continuous pattern of geometric designs in silver, further gold and silver inlay on the slender neck with flower blossoms below a collar of scrolling vines and chrysanthemum suspended from the flaring mouth, the rim and foot accented with bands of gold key-fret and chevrons (2)
