One of 1200 copies (total ed. 1225.) - Léger's illustrations harmoniously combine figuration, abstraction and typography and, thanks to their dynamic design, elevate Cendrar's classics of apocalyptic literature to a major illustrative work of modernism. The text describes the end of the world in the form of a satirical screenplay. Using various forms of illustration, such as letters and numbers, advertising slogans and quotations, the artist draws a hectic picture of the modern metropolis. This is Léger's second work as a book illustrator the artist did not begin his graphic work until the following year. - Well preserved, good copy of this important book.
