Africa - Atlas volume. With 10 lithographed plates. Oblong folio. Contemporary half leather with marbled boards and gilt cover label (rubbed and bumped, joint chipped). - Rare atlas volume. Without the two text volumes. - Gay 2681. Brunet IV, 1462. - The work was printed at the author's own expense, so the edition is very small. The atlas appeared without a title page and is thus complete. - Eduard Rüppell (1794-1884) was the first European after Bruce to penetrate the interior of Abyssinia, the former empire on the territory of present-day Ethiopia and Eritrea, from 1831-34. In addition to a large map, the plates show mainly views, traditional costumes, and inscriptions on ruins. - Throughout foxing and somewhat waterstained and partly with small soiling. One plate with tear in the lower white margin.

Der Atlas erschien ohne Titelblatt und ist so vollständig. - Eduard Rüppell (1794-1884) war nach Bruce der erste Europäer, der von 1831-34 ins Innere Abessiniens, dem ehemaligen Kaiserreich auf dem Gebiet des heutigen Äthiopien und Eritrea, vordrang. Die Tafeln zeigen neben einer großen Karte vor allem Ansichten, traditionelle Kostüme und Ruineninschriften. - Durchgehend stockfleckig und etwas wasserrandig sowie teils mit kl. Anschmutzungen. Eine Tafel mit Einriss im unteren weißen Rand.
