Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Central and Southern Arizona, Hohokam culture, Sacaton type, ca. 950 to 1150 CE. A petite pottery jar of carinated form shaped via the paddle-and-anvil technique. The shoulder slopes up to a squat neck and flared rim and has a hemispherical lid with a knob-form handle on top. The buffware vessel is decorated with applied red pigment that forms radiating spokes and concentric zigzagging stripes on the body, slanted stripes on the rim, and scalloped flower petals on the neck and lid rim. Size (w/ lid): 4.1" W x 3.4" H (10.4 cm x 8.6 cm); 4.2" H (10.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Restoration to lid and vessel rim, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions and spalls, with light fading to original pigment on body. Great preservation to original red pigment across body.
