Native American, Southwestern United States, Central and Southern Arizona, Hohokam culture, ca. 950 to 1150 CE. A petite pottery jar with a pretty red-on-buff patterning comprised of interlocking stepped motifs. Hohokam pottery was similar to the pottery produced in the plains only the clays tended to be of finer quality and were tempered with caliche and finely ground micaceous schist and vegetative material. The glittering mica flecks from the minerals in the clay are prominent in the surface of this jar and are quite lovely in the light! Size: 3" Diameter x 2.75" H (7.6 cm x 7 cm)
