MAITRE PATRICK SAUSVERD
Maitre Patrick Sausverd 為法國 Joigny 拍賣行之拍賣官。有著源自家族拍賣官的傳統，且藝術充滿熱情，於拍賣場縱橫近40年，經手近2000次拍賣，是拍賣行中的指標性人物。
白玉質，清透光潔，瑩潤光滑。通體呈橢圓瓜形，造形飽滿豐潤，掏膛勻淨。壺外壁浮雕瓜蔓與瓜葉縈繞，一側趴附蝴蝶。整體線條優美，手感溫潤柔滑，刀法俐落，婉轉細膩的線條不僅使全器具雅致飄逸的動感，更在簡單造形中加入自然生動趣味。
肖生玉器，又稱像生或仿生玉器，模仿花果類或動物形象，從新石器時代開始即已出現，然早期多以動物形象為主；宋代以後，隨著花鳥畫的發展，以植物形象為模仿的圓雕玉器種類逐漸增多；至清中期發展至頂峰，又以花卉或果實類題材最為常見，充滿濃厚自然氣息，常被賦以吉祥寓意，深受文人雅士和達官貴人喜愛。
本件〈白玉瓜瓞綿綿鼻煙壺〉不僅是肖生玉器的表現，又蘊藏吉祥含意。「瓜瓞綿綿」出自《詩經》：「綿綿瓜瓞，民之初生，自土沮漆。」大者為瓜，小者為瓞。又因「蝶」與「瓞」諧音，將瓜與蝶組合，意喻「子孫萬代」、「繁衍不息」之吉祥寓意，此種紋樣在清代民間與宮廷作品中被廣泛應用。如清宮舊藏，北京故宮博物院庋藏清中期〈青玉蝴蝶甲蟲紋瓜形鼻煙壺〉，與本品皆取瓜果為造形，將玉石自然之美與中國傳統吉祥文化深度融合，體現非凡的智慧和高超技藝。另拍場相似之例如拍賣於西冷印社2020年8月9日，編號4558，清乾隆〈白玉浮雕瓜瓞綿綿鼻煙壺〉，可資參考。
本件鼻煙壺曾為法國拍賣官 Maitre Patrick Sausverd 之收藏，再經過英國、美國私人收藏後，現身於紐約邦瀚斯，當時成交價為 USD 35,000元，傳承來源清晰。此外，還曾出版於 Robert Hall《Chinese Snuff Bottles XVII》。Robert Hall 約二十歲出頭時，在 Hugh Moss 的古董店首次看見鼻煙壺作品，自此陷入鼻煙壺的魅力，無法自拔，並成為鼻煙壺的主要經銷商之一，享譽全球。
