Item Details
Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) period, Tularosa, ca. 1100 to 1250 CE. A charming hand-built pottery jar comprised of a rounded body with a stable base and flared rim. The exterior is a white-gray hue overpainted in a mesmerizing and intricate linear pattering - the base is left bare, the tips of the decorative program creating the outline of an 8-pointed star. Anasazi pottery was made by hand-coiling clay, then smoothing the surface and painting with designs before firing, serving numerous storage and serving functions, as well as artistic items for trade and commerce. Size: 4.5" Diameter x 3.75" H (11.4 cm x 9.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-John B. Kendrick II collection, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired 1965 to 1990; John B. Kendrick II was that son of John B. Kendrick, Wyoming governor and US senator
