Tall Roman Glass Flask
Tall Roman Glass Flask
Item Details
Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A tall and thin-walled flask that is free-blown from semi-translucent glass of pale turquoise hues. The vessel exhibits a bell-shaped body with a smooth pontil scar beneath the base, a tall cylindrical neck, and a flared, in-folded rim. Areas of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence cover the vessel and imbue it with an attractive presentation. Size: 2.1" W x 5.2" H (5.3 cm x 13.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Virginia, USA collection, before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

#170160
Condition
Light encrustations and weathering film to surfaces, with micro-bubbling within glass matrix, and one small chip to rim, otherwise intact and very good. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Great earthen deposits and iridescence throughout.
