Description
PAIR OF LEATHER FIRE BUCKETS, S. HANCOCK, DATED 1817
American. Painted leather, each inscribed, "Cambridge Port Fire Society/ S. Hancock/ 1817" and numbered, 1 and 2, respectively. Samuel Hancock (1777- 1860), nephew of John Hancock, was born in Cambridge and moved to Cambridge port in 1802. The Cambridge port Fire Society was formed in 1803 and Hancock served as a clerk. 14.5" height, 8" diameter
Condition
As found condition with wear and tear as expected from age and use. Handle of No.1 detatched but present.
