TWO GEORGE III LEATHER FIRE BUCKETS FROM SOMERSET HOUSE LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY Each polychrome decorated with title and St Edward's Crown armorial one 28.5cm high, 25cm wide, 24.7cm deep, the other 30.5cm high, 24.8cm wide, 25cm deep Somerset House on The Strand, London is a Georgian Neoclassical building with later Victorian wings. Buckets such as these were common to the larger, more affluent buildings of this period and were to be found throughout the building, filled with sand, in the ever too likely chance of a small fire starting.
