NEW ENGLAND PAINT-DECORATED LEATHER FIRE BUCKET, for "THOS BARKER / ENTERPRISE FIRE CLUB", with a fire team responding to a fire in a town setting. Retains an early polychrome painted surface. Possibly Salem, Massachusetts. First half 19th century. 12" H.
Literature: See Priddy - American Fancy: Exuberance in the Arts, 1790-1840, p. 121, fig. 205 for similarly decorated example.
Provenance: From the Bill and Nancy Wick Collection, Port Royal, VA.

Condition

Good overall as-found condition, lacking handle, scattered areas of minor to moderate paint loss, probable areas of later paint, and with areas of expected usage wear.
