This inventory of the estate of David Niess Jr. included two slaves, three cows, and a wide variety of household furniture and utensils. Also listed are nearly one hundred books, including hymnals, law reports, histories, encyclopedias, medical books, and Payne's Age of Reason. In 1812, Niess published the second edition of Rev. Starke Dupuy's hymnal entitled Hymns and Spiritual Songs, Original and Selected, and thirty copies of the hymnal were listed on this inventory. Dupuy (1779-ca. 1840) was an early Baptist minister in Kentucky and Tennessee.
In February 1817, the Kentucky General Assembly authorized Robert Johnston and William Hunter, the administrators of David Niess's estate, to sell a lot he owned in Frankfort.
