Description

Meyer Lansky Re: Israel & Corruption: "These material bastards...always looking to line their pockets with money..."

Two page autograph letter signed on two sheets, 7.25" x 10.5". Dated "Oct 20, 1974" and signed by Meyer Lansky as "Shalom Meyer". Punch holes to the right margin affecting some of the words, else near fine.

Meyer Lansky writes to Joseph Sheiner, aka "Yoshki" covering his concerns about Yoshki's business "..I hope you didn't lose everything you put in. Business can be very frustrating...", his wife's recent surgery, and his continuing complications with going to Israel.

However Lansky also refers to Yoshki's religious bankers, and the corruption within Israel "...Your religious bankers have really done you in. These material bastards instead of always looking to line their pockets with money have brought about a sad condition for Israel. They should have devoted more to Israel's defense instead of of luxury apartments, apartments at a reasonable price for the youth and other ages of Israelis or new comers of low means. Bums like me you can do without unless we bring some to help others.

Sapir is shocked and surprised that Israel Corp dealt with swindlers; he will find more than one swindler that he and a few of his colleagues are friendly with..."

A revealing letter touching upon the corruption which has plagued Israel both then and now.
