Elvis Presley's Personally Owned 1.00ctw Diamond and 14K Yellow Gold Nugget Cluster Ring From J.D. Sumner W/LOA From Sam Thompson - This diamond and 14k yellow gold nugget-style cluster ring was personally owned by Elvis Presley. The ring is decorated with (7) round cut diamonds totaling approximately 1 carat, and has the nugget style motif that Elvis favored. The ring is inscribed "I COR 13 13" on the inside of the band for First Corinthians Chapter 13 Verse 13. The ring was given by Elvis to Sam Thompson, Elvis' good friend and personal bodyguard. Sam Thompson met Elvis in 1972 when Elvis was dating his sister, Linda Thompson, and Sam was working as a police officer in Memphis. Elvis and Sam became fast friends, and Sam went on to head security on several tours before becoming Elvis' personal bodyguard in 1976. The pair were such good friends that Elvis purchased a home in Memphis for Sam in 1973, and Thompson accompanied Elvis on what would be his "Last Vacation" in Hawaii in March, 1977. The ring comes with a letter of authenticity from Thompson which states in part, "It was at that home (referring to the home Elvis purchased for him) in March of 1977, just after returning to Memphis from the last vacation to Hawaii, that Elvis came by for a visit. During our very personal conversation he said he wanted to give me something and he took the ring he was wearing off and gave it to me..Elvis said he had received this ring from J.D. Sumner."
