Ancient Near East, Holyland, Levant, Iron Age I, ca. 1200 to 1000 BCE. A stunning pottery jug presenting a flared rim, a narrow neck, a broad shoulder, and a bulbous body, all sitting atop a petite, discoid foot. Boasting black on red decoration, the exterior is adorned with a large, horizontal band of spiral motifs around the center of the body flanked by several straight and wavy horizontal striations above and below, as well as a starburst design around the neck. A bifurcated, ribbon-form handle connects rim to shoulder, also showcasing a black-painted pattern of horizontal stripes. Size: 4.5" Diameter x 6.2" H (11.4 cm x 15.7 cm); 7.2" H (18.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Repaired from a few large pieces with restoration and repainting over some break lines, while other break lines are visible. Minor loss to small area of rim. Expected nicks, chips, abrasions, and pitting throughout, commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent with nice remaining pigment and rich earthen deposits. Collection labels on underside of foot.
