Rufino del Carmen Arellanes Tamayo (Oaxaca de Juárez, August 25, 1899 - Mexico City, June 24, 1991) was a painter Mexican. A leading figure in the panorama of 20th-century Mexican painting, Rufino Tamayo was one of the first Latin American artists who, together with the representatives of the well-known "group of three" (Rivera, Siqueiros and Orozco), achieved prominence and widespread truly international. Like them, he participated in the important muralist movement that flourished in the period between the two world wars. His works, however, due to their creative will and their characteristics, have a different dimension and are clearly distinguished from those of the aforementioned group and their epigones.
