Donated By: Musack.org
New World, David Alfaro Siqueiros (Mexican, 1896-1974), a color lithograph entitled "Vista Aerea" from "Mountain Suite", printed in 1969 CE. A vibrant lithograph in colors by the important Mexican modern muralist, painter, and printmaker David Alfaro Siqueiros depicting a dramatic, abstract landscape in rich hues of gold, orange, green, lavender, white, grey, and black, signed on the lower right and numbered 139/250 on the lower left (both in pencil). One of Los Tres Grandes (the Three Great Ones, along with Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco), the Mexican social realist artist David Alfaro Siqueiros pursued revolutionary themes inspired by the Spanish Civil War and the Mexican Revolution, in which he participated. As a pioneer of the Mexican Mural Renaissance, Siqueiros also championed an appreciation for indigenous cultures and art forms. Set in a custom white mat under glass within a blond wood frame. Size: 23.5" L x 16.625" W (59.7 cm x 42.2 cm); 33.375" L x 25.5" W (84.8 cm x 64.8 cm) with mat and frame
Siqueiros' landscapes were notoriously violent and dramatic reflecting the troubles and conflicts of the world; hence, "Vista Aerea" presents a hilly, mountainous, and/or volcanic landscape rather than a tranquil pastoral scene. He oftentimes reveled in aerial views and somewhat skewed topographical forms as seen here. This image is among Siqueiros' most desirable ones. It is one of 10 prints in his "Mountain Suite" which was an edition 250 printed by Mourlot and published by Touchstone Press in New York in 1969.
