Description
Pleasing sixth plate tintype of a handsome younger man reading a newspaper. Under magnification it becomes clear that he is actually reading a copy of The New York Ledger, a weekly story paper that was published from 1855-1898. The Ledger was similar (although not as well circulated) to Harper’s Weekly. It may be possible to pinpoint the date based on the engraving that can be seen on the cover page. The image itself likely dates to around 1860, which gives a future owner a start.
Good condition overall. Varnish distortion can be seen at raking light.
