**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE; Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful gathering of 4 hand-built pottery whistles in various forms. First is a petite Chupicuaro zoomorphic whistle, perhaps representing a frog, with several perforated tone holes and smooth red pigment. Next are 3 Colima whistles: a crouching frog with pursed lips that comprise the mouthpiece; a warrior standing nude while brandishing a sling; and a standing bird-headed musician holding pair of gourd rattles. Size of largest (bird-headed musician): 2.4" W x 3.8" H (6.1 cm x 9.7 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

Condition
Frog whistle has repair to left hind leg and restoration to right hind leg; repair to left arm of bird-headed musician; both with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines and new material for frog. Each piece has light abrasions and encrustations. Two smaller whistles create pleasing sound, but both larger figural whistles do not create sound.
