Description
Signed cabinet card of Henry Irving in costume as Shylock. It comes with a Jan. 2, 1891 ALS written by Bram Stoker as personal secretary to Henry Irving on Lyceum letterhead and signed by Irving. Sir Henry Irving (British, 1838-1905), a Victorian stage actor-manager at London's West End Lyceum Theatre. He was knighted in 1895, becoming the first actor to be awarded that honor. He was also widely accepted as a major inspiration for Count Dracula, whose author, Bram Stoker, was the Lyceums business manager. Dimensions are: letter, 8 inches X 5 inches; 20.3 cm X 12.7 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Both signatures are strong and clear, with slight smudging to cabinet card signature. Both pieces show aging and toning. Small tear to bottom of letter. Provenance: A North Carolina collection.
