Description
Fell 6000-5000 years BP, found 1576 AD. A Campo del Cielo nickel iron meteorite (IAB"). See Graham, Bevan and Hutchison, Catalogue of Meteorites, Natural History Museum, 1985, p.88, for details of this fall. 64 grams, 43mm (1 3/4"). From an old Bristol collection; from Chaco Province, Argentina. It was first recorded by Hernan Mexia de Miraval in 1576 AD, when the mass weighed over 1000 kgs. It was rediscovered in 1803, and a large proportion of it was collected by the Natural History Museum in London. Locally to the fall site, the meteorite was known as 'Otumpa'. [No Reserve]
