The military finances for the colony of Connecticut were handled by the Pay-Table Office during the Revolutionary War. Pay-Table committee members during this period included Oliver Ellsworth, Oliver Wolcott, Jr., Hezekiah Rogers, William Moseley, Fenn Wadsworth, Eleazer Wales and Samuel Wyllys. Financing the Revolution laid a heavy burden upon each colony without a federal government that could levy taxes. Many colonies, including Connecticut, issued promissory notes such as this.
