Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A standing male figure, hand-built from redware pottery, meant to be used as a pouring vessel. The nude man stands with his exposed, spout-form phallus atop arched feet and bears a cream-hued sash and belt across his waist and chest. His enlarged head bears coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, full lips, and perforated ears, all beneath a pinched hat. The mouth of the vessel is situated behind his head and was meant to be poured from the phallus spout below. Size: 4.75" W x 9.4" H (12.1 cm x 23.9 cm)
Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010

Condition
Repairs to both legs along thighs, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and light encrustations to head, body, limbs, and phallus. Great preservation to pigment throughout and good manganese blooms.
