Description
Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Moche III, ca. 400 to 500 CE. A very fine pottery stirrup vessel - an early type of beer bottle used to hold chicha, a type of fermented corn beer. Standing male shaman wearing hooded cape, loin cloth and jaguar headdress. In his hands he holds a conch shell trumpet and appears ready to play it. Wonderful use of color! Size: 10.25" H (26 cm)
