Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery figure seated upon crossed legs with thick arms draped gently over each knee. The figure sits upright and wears a broad belt across his waist, displays black bands across each bicep, and dons a beaded necklace around his muscular neck. His conical head presents impressed eyes, a tab-shaped nose with a nose ring, puffy cheeks, and perforated ears with simple earrings. A pair of incised grooves details his forehead and gives the appearance of a headband. Size: 4.625" W x 5.9" H (11.7 cm x 15 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

Condition
Minor hairline fissures beneath legs, with fading to pigment, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Great root marks throughout.
