Ancient Colima Seated Figure Ca. 100 B.C. - 250 A.D. Colima, Mexico. Size 13 3/4 inches high. Large hollow pottery seated shaman wearing a small horn in the center of his forehead, indicative of the shaman class. Has a small turtle shell pendant necklace, and holds his left hand to his mouth, right arm raised, holding a partial crescent form knife. Painted black highlights on a red-brown ground. Scattered mineral deposits on the surface. Missing upper portion of knife, long stable hairline across rear waist, otherwise intact. Provenance: Ex. collection of Herb Levine, NYC., acquired 1984 from Washington Irving Galley, NYC.
