Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Middle Cauca complex, Quimbaya culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. An abstract anthropomorphic figure with a wide, trapezoid-shaped head with projecting lateral corners above slit-form eyes and lips, a bulbous nose, tall cheeks, and petite pierced ears. The male figure stands atop broad feet and wide-spread legs with delineated genitalia in-between, holds bent arms against the broad chest, and has angular shoulders which taper inward to a thick neck. The highly-burnished surface is embellished with vibrant vermilion slip, and areas of fire-darkening imbue the figure with a bi-chrome presentation. Size: 6.375" W x 9.1" H (16.2 cm x 23.1 cm); 10.1" H (25.7 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-John Rich collection, California, USA. John Rich was a notable Hollywood producer/director.

Condition
Repaired from multiple pieces with light restoration, resurfacing, and overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to head, body, and legs, with areas of fire-darkening and fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and manganese blooms throughout. Old stabilization putty residue present on stand.
