This is a wonderful beaded and fringed stone head bi-point war club skull cracker from the Cheyenne Native American Indians dating to circa late-19th Century. The circa 1880’s war club features a stone head wrapped in tight Buffalo Bison Indian tanned hide over parfleche rawhide which is adorned with beautiful period correct glass trade seed beadwork in a geometric pattern, also showing a scalloped cut fancy edge and hide color with fringe. The haft handle is wood and is completely covered in Indian brain-tanned Buffalo Bison hide which is sinew sewn and shows traces of red ocher mineral pigment paint, worn with age and use. At the end of the club shows a drop of frilly hand cut hide fringe which is secured using brass trade tacks just below the gripping area, a nice drop which adds an artful appeal. The piece is from the Northern Cheyenne of Wyoming and shows a nice well-preserved condition for its early age with slight bead loss and expected wear. The bipoint stone head shows expected wear from age and use and appears to also have been previously painted as well possibly. The club measures 20.75”L with an additional 13.5”L fringe. The stone head is 3.75” by 2 5/8” by 2.5”.
