Description
Featured in this lot is this Acoma Pueblo polychrome natural dye painted olla pottery vessel circa 19th century. The vessel shows wonderful geometric patterns of natural dye painted design with black coloration and red coloration with a olla pottery vessel design. An olla is a ceramic jar, often unglazed, used for cooking stews or soups, for the storage of water or dry foods, or for other purposes like the irrigation of olive trees. Ollas have short wide necks and wider bellies, resembling beanpots or handis. The condition of this pot is good for its age with slight wear and patina to the material consistent with its age and in good overall condition. The measurements of this olla pottery vessel are 4 3/4" x 5 1/2" x 5 1/2".
