Description
Native American, Alaska, St. Lawrence Island, Inuit, Aleutian, or Punuk peoples, ca. 1850 CE. A beautiful axe head made from an attractive mottled gray stone with a groove and two ribs. The axe features a pointed butt end and a wide curved blade edge. The groove was for attaching this head to a pole or handle. Axes served a variety of purposes in the Arctic climate, such as chopping holes in ice for fishing. Size: 6.5" L x 3.25" W (16.5 cm x 8.3 cm)
