Description
This is a wonderful authentic Tomahawk War Club from the Southern Plains Native American Indians. The piece was collected from the Apache tribe at San Carlos, with collection information accompanying the piece stating that the Apache Indians that owned this weapon took it from a Comanche Indian after a battle and then used it as his own. Apache and other Southwest tribes did not typically use metal tomahawks, but the Comanche did. The piece features a crude hand forged iron head with weeping heart cutout in the center of the blade surrounded by punch dot decoration. The head shows some mild filed lines and many hammer marks from the original forging process. The wood haft is adorned with brass trade tacks and two wraps of long buckskin fringes. The head measures 8” x 3.5”W. The tomahawk has a total length of 19”. The piece shows excellent sings of age and use with a nice even patina.
