Description
This is a nice original Plains Native American Indian Pipe Tomahawk with a cast brass head, dating to circa 1890. The piece was collected from the Lakota Sioux Native American Indians at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. This style of cast brass head has been dated to circa 1890’s by Peterson, Hartzler & Knowles, Francis, Baldwin and Hanson. The head measures 7.75”L x 2.5”W and has a nice green patina from age. The wood haft is adorned with brass trade tacks and shows a carved bone or ivory smoking tip. The end joint eye shows an early cartridge case along with the brass tacks. Total Length of the piece is 15.5”.
