Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, Macaracas type, ca. 850 to 1000 CE. A gorgeous hand-built pottery jar of a round-bottomed form decorated with repeating panels filled with abstract linear motifs. The lustrous red, black, and purple pigments are indicative of the renowned Macaracas style. The repeated pattern includes two interchanging half ovals, one more elongated than the other, with artistic abstractions illustrated within them. The neck of the vessel is accented by a solid black line which encircles the outside peripheries of its brief shoulder. In a mirrored effect, the rim is also encircled with a with a thin black line, completing a beautiful visual effect. Size: 6" W x 5.75" H (15.2 cm x 14.6 cm)
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) and has been found to be ancient and/or of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
