[REVOLUTIONARY WAR.] Archive of 16 documents, related to the life of Asa French, 1792-1853. 17 pp., various sizes. Expected folds; some staining and edge tears; very legible.

Asa French, Promissory Note, April 13, 1813
"For value received I promise to pay Jacob Gibson two Cows the girt of each Cow is to be five feet and one inch and one quarter of an inch and likewise both to be with calf or calves by their side when delivered and likewise said Cows are to calve in good season for the use of the ensuing years after. When delivered said Cows are not to exceed seven years old when returned and I hereby agree to return or deliver said Cows in four years from the above date. / Asa French"

Tax Receipt, October 31, 1816
"Received this 31 day of October 1816, from Asa French the sum of ––– dollars and 49 cents for direct tax upon the property of sd French in the town of Weare in the third collection district in the State of New-Hampshire, under the act of Congress to lay and collect a direct tax within the United States. / S. Johnston / Deputy Collector of the first division in the third Collection District N. Hampshire."

Asa French (1760-1841) was born in Massachusetts and served in the Massachusetts militia for six months in 1776 and eight months in 1778 during the Revolutionary War. He married Mary Polly Lovejoy (1761-1845) in 1782 in Andover, Massachusetts. They settled in Weare, New Hampshire, by the following year. He later moved to Concord, New Hampshire.
