Title: 1850s Actor Print Diptych Woodblock Print Ukiyo-e
Description: This is a Japanese woodblock print or ukiyo-e diptych showing two actors in a kabuki play. The two prints fit side by side to create one cohesive image. The image shows a woman holding a sword in one hand and a drum in the other, and a man cowering away from her. The image has some inscription and title cartouches on the right side. Actor prints, or yakusha-e, were incredibly popular and widespread throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. This piece does not have an artist or publisher signature or seal.

Dimensions: entire image (both prints together) 14x18.75 inches
Condition: Some fading and toning on paper, although most colors remain vibrant. Some light wear to outer edges of paper and corners. Some small holes and rips in certain areas, see photos for specifics. No significant insect damage or creases!
Provenance: From the estate of a local retiree, whose grandfather collected Ukiyo-e prints throughout the 1930s.
