1864 Very Rare Maryland State Anti-Constitutional Ballot
c. 1864 Civil War Period Printed Ballot Regarding the Maryland Constitutional Convention, being AGAINST the proposed new State Constitution which Outlawed Slavery, Disenfranchised Southern Sympathizers, and Reapportioned the Maryland General Assembly based upon the number of "White" inhabitants, Choice Crisp Extremely Fine.
This original rare black printed on white wove period Paper Ballot to be cast "AGAINST the CONSTITUTION" measures 2.25" x 4.25" with a blank reverse. In 1864 the "Border State" of Maryland held a Constitutional Convention to outlaw Slavery, limit the political power of Slave owners, and Deny the right to Vote to Southern Sympathizers, Many in Maryland voted against the new Constitution, but the votes of Union soldiers carried the day for the "Unionists". This is a rare clean and attractive survivor of that contest with a sharply detailed vignette of Miss Liberty at the upper half. The first we have offered.
