Late Period, 664-332 BC. A white glazed composition striding figure of ibis-headed Thoth, the god of wisdom and writing, with his arms resting on the sides of his striated kilt; dorsal pillar to the rear. Cf. Andrews, C., Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, item 38(h), for type. 47 grams, 10.6cm (4 1/4"). Acquired for the ‘Buckingham Collection’ by the late Nik Douglas (1944-2012), renowned author, curator and Asian art expert; the collection formed from the early 1960s to early 1970s. [No Reserve]
