He was one of the most influential and popular figures of mid-19th-century America. 7 ¾” x 6 ¼” autograph letter signed, The Elms, October 10, 1858, to poet James Russell Lowell (1819-1891). “…I know nothing whatever of any poem for the Atlantic Monthly.
