**First Time At Auction**
Indonesia, Central Java, ca. mid 20th century CE. A beautifully carved and painted wooden pair of figures - a male and a female, best known as a Loro Blonyo - meaning "inseparable couple" and believed to represent Dewi Sri (the goddess of fertility and protector of rice fields) and her consort Sadono. Here they both sit on their knees with their hands placed upon their thighs, palms facing down, wearing matching arm cuffs, bracelets, and three-leaf necklaces - as well as garments with matching patterns in pink, black, and white as well as sashes of gold, pink, and blue. Together this man and woman serve as a special symbol of harmony and prosperity from Indonesia. Size: male measures 6.875" L x 6" W x 11" H (17.5 cm x 15.2 cm x 27.9 cm); female is just a tad smaller
