Description
Bulul, also known as bul-ul or tinagtaggu, is a carved wooden figure used to guard the rice crop by the Ifugao peoples of northern Luzon. The sculptures are highly stylized representations of ancestors and are thought to gain power and wealth from the presence of the ancestral spirit. This Bulul is a fine example still adorned with the original earrings. The sculpture measures 17.75 x 5.5 inches. Provenance: Collected in situ mid 20th century by Museum Owner and was Part of the permanent display at the Metamora Museum of Oddities, Metamora , Indiana.
