ENGLISH CREAMWARE TRANSFER-PRINTED AMERICAN MARKET CERAMIC BOWL, having black transfer scenes depicting the War of 1812 battle between American Frigate "United States" and British Frigate "Macedonian" with polychrome enamel decoration to interior, and four additional transfer images to exterior including "JEMMY'S FAREWELL" and "JEMMY'S RETURN". Circa 1813. 4 7/8" H, 10 7/8" D rim.
Having overall restoration, some failing.
Catalogue Note: The United States Congress awarded Captain Stephen Decatur the Congressional Gold Medal on January 29, 1813 to honor his capture of the HMS Macedonian. Decatur was killed in a duel by Commodore James Barron in 1820 when he was only 41.
