ENGLISH CREAMWARE AMERICAN HISTORICAL / GEORGE WASHINGTON TRANSFER-PRINTED CERAMIC JUGS / PITCHERS, LOT OF TWO, each having black transfer designs, comprising one example having a memorial to George Washington to one side with "First / in / War" "Rest / in / Peace" on one side of the obelisk and a chain of states surrounding the Washington memorial scene and reverse depicting heavenly angels guiding an ascending Washington with mourners at his feet and "APOTHEOSIS." printed below, with "A MAN / without example / A PATRIOT / without reproach" below spout, and a footed creamer with "Mount Vernon", printed above house, depicting the manor house with a figure holding a rearing white horse. Marks to underside include creamer with hand-brushed "268" and each having hand-brushed museum accession numbers. Probably Liverpool and Staffordshire, England. First half 19th century. 7" and 8" HOA.

Condition

George Washington jug having professional restoration including hairlines to rim, some faint hairlines to base, and glaze wear to handle; creamer having broken and repaired spout, a discolored hairline to underside foot, probably as made, and some scattered areas of discoloration.
