George Washington & LaFayette Jasperware Pitcher or Jug Produced in Rare Blue Color for LaFayette's Tour in 1824
c. 1824, Rare George Washington & LaFayette Portraits with Seal of the United States Jasperware Pitcher or Jug produced in rarest Blue and White colors with raised high-relief Black text legend letters in decorative White Banners, England, Choice Near Mint.
This extremely rare fully intact Blue George Washington & LaFayette stoneware Jasperware Pitcher measures 4.5" high x 5.5" from spout to handle. It was manufactured for the American market in the period circa 1824 during the historic return Tour of America by LaFayette in 1824.
This historical Liverpool Pitcher is identified, described, and illustrated in David and Linda Arman's master reference, "Anglos-American Ceramics" on page 239 as AI.56, AI.57 and AI.58. Arman suggests this exceptional example was produced by Adams, Wood or Wedgwood and that it of of the rarest color in Blue, with a value double any other suggesting a value of $2,000 to $3,000. This George Washington Jasperware Pitcher is wonderfully decorated with cornucopias grapevine decoration on the rim and the portraits of George Washington and Marquis de LaFayette and an emblem of a Heraldic American Eagle with a white raised banner containing 13 Stars above. Virtually new as made, choice in appearance, with a natural manufacturing hairline on the base as made and trivial irregularity hidden on the spout. Overall, gorgeous with vivid rich Blue and Black color on bright white high-relief ceramic. These decorative patriotic display pieces were produced to appeal to the sentiment raised in the United States by the visit of LaFayette in 1824 to be sold to excited Americans awaiting his historic visit and tour. The first of this impressive design rarity we have offered.
