Edith Roosevelt (1901-09)Group of 2 Signed LettersTyped Letter, signedOyster Bay, New York, November 16th, 1932. 1 p. 7 x 6 in. (177 x 152 mm). Typed letter, signed by First Lady Edith Roosevelt, to Mr. Julius Holz candidly expressing her dismay at the defeat of Herbert Hoover to Franklin Delano Roosevelt the previous Tuesday (November 8): "I suppose we ought to have expected the result of Tuesday, but all the same it was a terrible blow." On Sagamore Hill stationery; creasing from original fold. Together with:Autograph Letter, signedOyster Bay, New York, Nov(ember) 20th, 1936. 3 pp. on two sheets. 7 x 6 in. (177 x 152 mm). Intimate autograph letter, signed by Roosevelt, to longtime friend Fanny Smith Parsons: "I had not known of all the sorrows you have had to bear. The years bring these to us. Three of my closest friends died in the last seven months & it is hard to face life with out them..." She goes on to write, "...the result of the election was more than we expected but after all there were seventeen millions of us who worked against the new deal, & I cannot lose faith in the ultimate future of the country." On Sagamore Hill stationery; creasing from original folds. Lot includes a postcard depicting the Roosevelt family.
