**First Time At Auction**
Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A beautiful wheel-thrown pottery lebes gamikos (Greek marriage vase) with a flared foot, an apple-shaped body with a rounded shoulder, a squat rim topped by a small lid with a large central knob, and a pair of handles arching upwards. The cream hued vessel is decorated with rings of black and peach pigment on the body and has a lid with painted black dots radiating across the shoulder. Lebes gamikos are important and highly-symbolic vessels used primarily before wedding ceremonies during the ritual of sprinkling the bride with water. Size: 2.75" Diameter x 2.625" H (7 cm x 6.7 cm)

Condition
Lid restored from two pieces and reattached base. Chip to lid and nicks on side and base. Expected fading of paint. Otherwise, very nice.
