Description
Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet depicting a wadjet (or wedjat, "Eye of Horus"), an ancient ocular symbol of protection. The eye components are glazed with blue-green pigment and protrude from a white, unglazed ground, and a suspension hole is perforated laterally through the pendant. Size: 1.2" W x 0.75" H (3 cm x 1.9 cm); 1.8" H (4.6 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Dr. Sid Port collection, California, USA, acquired in 1980

Condition
Minor nicks to peripheries and verso and light fading to glaze pigment, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of glaze pigment throughout.
