Description
-NO RESERVE-.36 caiber, 7.375" octagon to round barrel, S/N 3502, This is an original confederate Griswold revolver with all original and matched parts. These were copies of the 1851 Colt Navy revolver. Manufactured by Samuel Griswold in Griswoldville, Georgia. Griswold was the largest Confederate manufacturer of handguns and produced approximately 3700 percussion revolvers between 1862 and 1864. This Second Model Revolver has the proper Dragoon-style octagonal barrel lug with round barrel and brass pin front sight, brass frame, trigger guard and back strap and one-piece walnut grip. The cylinder has the distinctive Griswold and Gunnison twist lines and battered safety pins between each nipple. The butt profile has a slight upward angle. The serial number -3052- is stamped on the right side of the barrel lug, the cylinder and on the right side of the frame. The trigger guard and rammer have batch numbers 22. All of the visible primary and secondary serial numbers match.
Condition:Barrel and cylinder has been reblued. Steel shows pitting under the re-blue. Brass frame, backstrap and triggerguard still retains a pleasant age patina. Grips are very interesting they are original to the gun and have had an old repair by using a piece of brass and brass screws on the inside of the left grip to hold it together, and then a screw was added going through both grips and a threaded washer was use to hold them on the revolver. The original center piece of wood is still on the inside of grips. All the parts are original CSA Griswold parts and all are matched.
