Item Details
Description
-NO RESERVE-EXTREMELY FINE AND VERY EARLY CONFEDERATE SPILLER & BURR REVOLVER. With an ownership history that is about as good as it gets.SN 105. Cal. 36. A top shelf example of the incredibly scarce brass-framed Confederate revolver made in Georgia during the Civil War. Standard configuration with standard 6-7/8″ octagonal bbl.

Spiller & Burr revolvers were a Confederate brass-framed copy of the Whitney Navy Revolver. This gun shows Confederate Government acceptance with the classic large -CS- stamped on the right side of the frame. SN appears on the bottom of the bbl, cylinder pin, butt strap, right side of frame beneath grip, again on frame under trigger guard, trigger guard, loading arbor, and in pencil inside right grip. There are traces of finish in protected areas on this gun. Cylinder and loading arm are not serial numbered, but both are original. The twist lines in the cylinder are plainly present, and there is no evidence of a Whitney number ever being present on the rammer.

This gun is pictured in Col. Burtons Spiller & Burr Revolver by Matthew Norman, 1996. This is a very fine example with wonderful patina and a crisp -CS- frame marking. It will be a powerful addition even to the most advanced collection, and it will please even the most discriminating fuss-budget collector. A true gem.PROVENANCE: Col. Robert Howard prior to 1964, William A. Albaugh 1964 (Albaugh pd Mr Howard $700 for this gun on Oct. 15th 1964), Bruce Kusrow 1967 (Bruce pd Albaugh $750), Ted Meredith 1977, and eventually Dr. Joseph A. Murphys world renowned arms collection in the early 2000s. Then to a recently deceased local collector with outstanding taste and a good eye, and one of my truest friends whose loss haunts me daily. Of some note is the fact that this gun sold for $31,900.00 at the Ted Meredith auction by Conestoga in 2001. I believe Dr. Murphy was the buyer there. CONDITION: This gun is overall very good to fine condition and all matching. Gun has crisp edges and functions well. Bore is crisp with well discerned rifling though pitted near muzzle end. Stocks are fine and fit gun perfectly with minor scrapes and scratches. There is a small chip to the inside toe of the left grip. Bbl and cylinder are overall brown with scattered areas of rust and pitting. Tiny traces of blue can be seen in protected areas of bbl. Loading arm shows long ago cleaning on the left side. The brass has a pleasing, undisturbed, gentle age patina. Very handsome.

This will be shipped by overnight Next Day Delivery by UPS (United Parcel Service) for $100 within the contiguous 48 states. Insurance is $1.50 per $100 value. -- NO SHIPMENTS OUTSIDE USA
